The region of Gubadly is the administrative region of the Republic of Azerbaijan. It is located in the south-western part of the Minor Caucasus. Its area is 800 km2; The central town is the city of Gubadly.
After 27 years, we return to Gubadly, the home of the brave. It is no coincidence that we call Gubadly the home of the brave. Because, both in the first Karabakh war of 1992-93, and in the second Karabakh war of 2020, many of our brave and heroic sons from Gubadly fought and sacrificed their lives to liberate the Motherland. National Hero of the Republic of Azerbaijan Aliyar Aliyev, Hasan Gorkhmaz (Hasangulu Gasimov), Shukur Hamidov, Mais Barkhudarov and others who are the example of Qubadly heroes.
Major Aliyar Aliyev is a National Hero of Azerbaijan and a participant in the First Karabakh War. Aliyar Aliyev was born in 1957 in Gazyan village of Gubadli. When the Karabakh war broke out, Aliyar Aliyev voluntarily joined the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. First, he was appointed commander of the intelligence unit of the battalion, then deputy commander of the battalion for supplies. The battalion he organized was also known among the people as the "Battalion of Wrestlers".
Aliyev was especially distinguished when he captured the positions of Basharat, Susuz Dag, Suarasi, and on September 30, 1992, he led the battle in the direction of Lachin region. In May 1991, the village of Yukhari Cibikli in Gubadli, and on October 12, 1992, in the battles for the Topagaj-Basharat heights of this region, the regiment led by him inflicted heavy losses on the enemy.
On June 24, 1992, Aliyar Aliyev's fighters shot down three
helicopters flying to bomb the center of Gubadli region. He took part in
Operation Shurnukhu in August 1992.
In the autumn of 1992, Aliyar Aliyev and 40 volunteer fighters liberated about
40 villages of occupied Lachin from the Armenians within 4 days.
Aliyar Aliyev's last battle took place on October 3, 1992, two kilometers from Lachin. Battalion commander Aliyar Aliyev died heroically in the battle for the "thorny field" height. He was buried in Gazyan village of Gubadli region.
Aliyar Yusif oglu Aliyev was posthumously awarded the title of National Hero of Azerbaijan by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan No. 301 dated November 10, 1992.
Hasangulu Gachay oglu Gasimov, as known as Hasan Gorkhmaz, was born on June 9, 1969 in Gayali village of Gubadly region. In the difficult days of our people, they took up arms and fought for the defense of the homeland. The first battle started in Shusha continued in Lachin and ended in his native Gubadly. During the occupation of Lachin, he came to the rescue with a platoon known as the "Fearless" and rescued 108 people. Then the platoon led by Hasangulu was sent to Gubadly region. Until the end of his life, he protected Yukhari Cibikli and its environs on the borders of Armenia from Armenian aggression. Hasan Korkhmaz, who fought in the hottest spots, always showed examples of fighting with fearlessness.
Hasan Korkhmaz took his name in connection with an interesting event. Thus, once, while being targeted by enemy bullets, the bullets hit the brave fighter Gorkhmaz Bakhshaliyev, who was protecting the commander. Hasangulu got acquainted with the driver Gorkhmaz Alovsat oglu Bakhshaliyev in Shusha. This brave warrior, who justified his name with his courage and fearlessness, gained great respect among his comrades. Korkhmaz saved the life of his commander thanks to his courage and self-sacrifice. After that, Hasangulu took the name of his comrade Korkhmaz, who saved him from death, as a nickname. "Hasan Korkhmaz" was written on the green ribbon on his forehead during the Karabakh war. He did not open the ribbon on his forehead until the day he was martyred. The Azerbaijani people also recognized him as Hasan Gorkhmaz. He took part in the battles of Lachin and Shusha and fought very bravely. The last battle of Hasan Gorkhmaz, who bravely emerged from all battles, took place on December 10, 1992 in the village of Yukhari Cibikli. On the same day, the enemy launched a large-scale attack on the village of Yukhari Cibikli. In these unequal battles, the brave warrior Hasan Gorkhmaz was heroically martyred.
Hamidov Shukur Nariman oglu was born on April 1, 1975 in Armudlug village of Gubadly region. In 2006 he entered the Military Academy of the Armed Forces. After graduating from the Military Academy, he continued his service as a unit commander in one of the military units N located in the frontline. Then he served in various positions and rose to the rank of commander.
Shukur Hamidov became known to the Azerbaijani public during the April fighting in 2016. During the four-day battles, Lieutenant-Colonel Hamidov showed great courage. He was awarded the title of National Hero by President Ilham Aliyev for his heroism and courage in maintaining the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan. In addition, Shukur Hamidov was awarded the military rank of colonel for his bravery during the operation to liberate the Lalatapa.
The greatest wish of our legendary National Hero, who set an example for young people with his courage and bravery, was to see our occupied lands liberated and to raise our glorious flag in Gubadly, the land of our ancestors. The colonel, who fought shoulder to shoulder with his soldiers in the second Karabakh war in 2020, finally achieved his dream. Shukur Hamidov was martyred during the Second Karabakh War, fighting heroically for the freedom of Gubadli region. [4] The National Hero was buried in the Alley of Honor II.
Another brave son of Gubadly is Major General Mais Barkhudarov. Mais Barkhudarov was born on April 20, 1976 in Demirchiler village of Gubadly region. Born in Gubadly, Mais Barkhudarov was a student of the National Hero of Azerbaijan, wrestler Aliyar Aliyev. Mais Barkhudarov's greatest wish was to raise the Azerbaijani flag at the place where his teacher, National Hero Aliyar Aliyev, was killed. During the Second Karabakh War, he honorably fulfilled his duty in the operations to liberate Gubadly and many other regions from occupation.
For more than 27 years, our native lands have been under enemy occupation. Our lands were liberated from occupation under the leadership of Supreme Commander Ilham Aliyev and the courage of our brave, fearless soldiers and victorious army. The year 2020 was written in golden letters in the history of Azerbaijan. There is the blood and soul of our martyrs in every corner of our lands. May God have mercy on our martyrs.
Gubadly, Shusha, Khankendi, Lachin, Kalbajar, Aghdam, Zangilan, Khojaly, Khojavend, Fizuli, Jabrayil, Aghdara - these are the lands of Azerbaijan and will always be so. Garabagh is ours! Karabakh is Azerbaijan!
